COVID 19 UPDATE
May 7, 2020
You may have already heard that Governor Pritzker has issued an executive order requiring face masks or face coverings in public settings where social distancing is not possible. For example, while you are shopping.
To help our residents become compliant with the Governor’s orders, we have implemented the Masks for Midlothian program. The Village Board has purchased 500 surgical masks and I have purchased an additional 500 masks to hand out to you, our residents. I have also requested 4800 face coverings through a program promoted by the South Suburban Mayors and Managers Association. We have not received the 4800 yet but hope to soon. Information on how to acquire the surgical masks is available on our Village website at www.villageofmidlothian.net.
Please continue to follow the CDC guidelines for protecting yourselves and your loved ones.
• Social Distancing
• Wash hands for a minimum of 20 seconds
• Frequently wash surfaces
• Wear some sort of mask or face covering while in public
• Stay home if you are able to
These are very tough and trying times for all of us. We recognize the need to help our residents in any way possible. We have suspended late fees on water bills and suspended water shut offs. We have postponed the vehicle sticker deadline and cut the fees for the stickers by 50%. We have also waived all monthly commuter fees for April and May.
As we move forward and plan for the future, we will be discussing creative ways to continue to keep our employees and residents safe and healthy. One such measure that we will be putting in place will be making village vehicle stickers and pet licenses available by mail. This will greatly reduce the lines and wait times at village hall. We will also continue working with our businesses to help ensure that they have a safe and prosperous re-opening.
I have been in touch with many of our business owners throughout this pandemic. They cannot thank all of you enough for your incredible support.
Please don’t forget to take a few minutes to fill out your census. This can be done very quickly online at www.2020census.gov. As of today 66.3% of our residents have completed this. Let’s raise the percentage! Your response gives the Federal Government insight on billions of dollars of fund allocation based on population. It also determines the number of seats we will have representing us in the U.S. House of Representatives. Your responses are confidential and do not get shared.
I’ve never been more proud of the residents of this village. I continually hear of neighbors helping neighbors and it’s heartwarming to be in a community that cares. Let’s continue to look out for each other!
As always, stay safe and healthy! Our thoughts are with those affected by COVID-19.
Thank You,
Gary L’Heureux
