[ARCHIVED] Midlothian Public Library

In the interest of public safety, Midlothian Public Library is cancelling all library programs for the remainder of March. We are acting on the advice of Anthony Fauci, Director of the National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Disease, and other public health officials who are recommending the cancellation of public gatherings to mitigate the spread of the Covid-19 virus. The library will remain open for its regular hours for routine business such as the checkout and return of materials and public computer use.

We are taking extra precautions, such as: disinfecting materials returned to the library; increasing our frequency of disinfecting desks, door handles and other surfaces that are frequently touched by the public; reducing the number of toys available in the children’s area, and increasing the frequency with which we disinfect the remaining toys. We also encourage library visitors to do their part: Stay home if you are sick. Wash your hands frequently. Use hand sanitizer provided throughout the library and the antiseptic wipes we provide for wiping down computer keyboards and mice.

Those who choose not to visit the library during this time period will not need to worry about due dates and fines. Midlothian Public Library (and all libraries in the SWAN consortium) are suspending all billing and collection reporting through May 1 and are extending all due dates between March 7 and April 30 to May 1.

We will make the determination of whether to extend the cancellation of programs into April during the last week of March. If you have questions or concerns, please contact the library at (708) 535-2027 or email the library at Thank you for your patience and understanding as we all work together to keep our community as healthy as possible.
