An update from Trustee Kathy Caveney:
FEMA Flood Insurance Discount is finally here! I'm thrilled to announce that FEMA approved Midlothian’s application to the Community Rating System (CRS), with a CRS Class 7 rating, effective May 1, 2018.
What does this mean for you?
Midlothian's property owners in certain designated flood zones will now qualify for a discount of up to 15% on their FEMA-required flood insurance premiums. In order to qualify for this type of premium discount, FEMA requires the municipality to adhere to higher standards of development/building practices and more than the "bare minimum" of stormwater management practices.
LOWER THE RISK, LOWER THE RATE!!
Midlothian’s Building Department will continue to follow the Village ordinance and CRS guidelines for all developments and improvements in flood zones and Public Works will continue infrastructure improvements to alleviate storm sewer overflows. The Village Board and Staff are committed to CRS and will continue to pursue a better rating for higher discounts for our property owners. The FEMA letter is attached below. Please share with your Flood Insurance Agent and Carrier.
