[ARCHIVED] Construction Continues on the curbs around Midlothian!

We've been receiving many calls about the curb and gutter work being done around town. Please read this notice from our Public Works Department about the work being done.

Construction Notice

Village Road Program – Spring 2017
The MFT Road Program is scheduled to begin the week of April 3rd. Work has begun in several areas of town.  The project is part of a Community Development Block Grant and MFT funding.

The details of this program involve pavement resurfacing, areas of partial full-depth pavement removal and replacement, roadway base repairs; and curb replacement where there are drainage issues.  Some driveway aprons may need to be replaced to meet the grade of new curb lines. Sidewalks at intersections will be upgraded to be ADA compliant.

If curb and gutter is removed in front of your driveway, you will not be allowed to park in your driveway for 7 to 10 days. This time is needed to give the new concrete sufficient time to "cure" to support the weight of vehicular traffic. Concrete work, including curb and driveway apron replacements, will be limited to one side of the street at a time to allow for on-street parking while the new concrete is curing.

The work consists of only removing and replacing the portion of a driveway apron necessary to meet the grades of the newly depressed curb line. Per our village ordinance, the “apron” of a private driveway is the responsibility of the property owner. The sub-contractor, D Construction will not take on any private asphalt work. Concrete work is available through J & J Newell Concrete at 708-812-1909. Concrete work behind the sidewalk requires a building permit; please contact the Building Department at 708-385-8642 for further information.

Arrangements for private driveway work must be made by the property owner with the contractor and is at the sole expense of the property owner.

Parking
No Parking – Police Order will be posted by the contractor before work begins for that side of the street. During work on the roadway pavement surfaces, no on-street parking will be allowed between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Please park on neighboring side streets or in your driveway. The contractor will post no parking signs and hand-deliver a notice to your home at least 24 hours before roadway pavement surface work begins on your block. Working hours for the contractor are 7 a.m. - 7 p.m., Monday - Saturday.

Fire Lanes
Streets with fire lanes will be maintained as Fire Lanes. When necessary, the fire lane will be temporarily shifted to the other side of the street to accommodate the concrete curb repairs. Please be mindful of the posted fire lane signs.

Additional Information/Inquiries
The construction contractor’s schedule may change according to the weather.  Please be aware that completion of the job is weather permitting. The Public Works Department is working with the contractors and residents to minimize disruptions to the community. Residents living on streets in the area of scheduled work are advised to call Public Works at 708-389-9658 if you have questions regarding the Village Road Program.
