[ARCHIVED] Residential Phone Scam Alert

IRS phone scam: A caller claiming to be from the Internal Revenue Service or a Government agency calls your phone claiming you owe money to the IRS and demands payment or personal information.

These callers tell victims they need to make immediate payment or face arrest. The I.R.S. does not initiate contact with taxpayers by phone or email to request personal or financial information. Telephone area codes reported by residents are; (202) and (509). For more information or to report a scam, go to and type "scam" in the search box.

If you are contacted by anyone using one of these scams hang-up. DO NOT stay on the line with these people, they are experienced scammers and know how to get information from you.
