Mosquito special notice - The heavy rains and high temperatures have resulted in an increased mosquito population.  It is important to protect yourself and your family members.  After a rain, check your property for anything that can hold water: children’s toys, flower pots, buckets, wheel barrows, etc.  Anything that can hold water for a few days can be a breeding ground for mosquitoes.  Keep grass and weeds cut to reduce harborage areas for adult mosquitoes. Use mosquito repellent, especially in the evening and at night, but also during the day if you are working in the garden or in a heavily vegetated area.  South Cook County Mosquito Abatement District concentrates on larval control to reduce mosquito populations.  If indicators show that large numbers of adult mosquitoes have West Nile Virus, then large area spraying is conducted from sunset to a few hours after sunset.
